Wederom een virtuele Night Shift-avond, met borrel (uit je eigen thuisbar) én sprekers dit keer. De dag die je wist dat zou komen: Night Shift goes international!
Musea gaan in juni weer open, maar voorlopig werken we nog zo veel mogelijk thuis. Daarom blijft Night Shift voorlopig ook digitaal opereren. En dit keer grijpen we de (virtuele) gelegenheid aan om internationale sprekers uit te nodigen.
Bij de reguliere Night Shift-avonden weten we nog wel eens een ‘internationale guru op doorreis’ te tackelen, of lezingen via een matige maar acceptabele Skype-verbinding de zaal in te beamen, maar nu digitale bijeenkomsten op afstand het nieuwe normaal zijn, wordt een internationale line-up ineens een stuk logischer.
We bevinden ons immers in de unieke situatie dat iedereen ter wereld nu in (min of meer) hetzelfde schuitje zit. Night Shift vraagt zich af: Hoe kijken collega’s wereldwijd tegen deze periode aan? Welke problemen delen we? Wat kunnen we van elkaar leren? En de hamvraag: wat brengt de toekomst?
Deze maand wederom een avond vol virtuele inspiratie en collegialiteit, verwacht een prettige mix van goede gesprekken, borrelpret én kennisdeling tot over de grenzen.
En zoals altijd: iedereen is welkom! Je hoeft geen verhaal of vraag te hebben, je hoeft niemand te kennen, hopelijk ontmoet je hier nieuwe mensen!
Sprekers
Lindsey Green
Co-founder of Frankly, Green + Webb, a digital agency and consultancy working with cultural organisations all over the world to design experiences that integrate digital and physical elements in ways that help new and less experienced audiences connect with the world around them. Lindsey has been working within arts, digital and learning since 1998. Part tech sceptic and user advocate, her focus is on creative but practical experiences that delight visitors and deliver measurable impact.
Madeleine Schriek-Maatstap
Before corona, Madeleine was a museumdocent/art teacher for several Dutch museums (Mauritshuis, Wereldmuseum, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam), where she would give guided tours, or teach on behalf of the museums at schools or youth centres. Now, she’s a corona homeschooling mom to her 2 boys. Waiting for my museums to open, so she can welcome the schools and families that would normally visit the museums.
She studied Cultural Social Studies and as a student worked as a guide at the National Education Museum and that’s how her guiding career started. After her graduation she worked as a social worker in deprived areas in Rotterdam, but still had a side job as a museum guide. 11 years ago she dared to make the switch and became a full time museum guide. This meant she had to do a lot of reading to understand everything about art, whether it was classic or modern.
Mike Murawski
Independent consultant, change leader & illustrator living in Portland, Oregon, USA. Mike is the Founding Editor of ArtMuseumTeaching.com and co-producer of #MuseumsAreNotNeutral, a global advocacy campaign calling for equity-based transformation across museums.
In 2016, he co-founded Super Nature Adventures LLC, a creative design and education project aimed at expanding access and learning in the outdoors. With more than 20 years of experience in education and museums, he brings his personal core values of deep listening, collective care, and healing practice into the work that he leads within organizations and communities. When he’s not writing, drawing, or thinking about museums, you can find Mike on long trail runs in the forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
Alexandre Fernandes
Alexandre is a cultural entrepreneur driven by social and environmental justice. As one of the co-founders of the Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro, Alexandre collaborated with the creation and development of inclusive learning spaces that informed, inspired and invited people to act for a more just and sustainable future. In 2018 Alexandre established MOTI (Museum of Tomorrow International) think-tank with the purpose of illuminating new planetary narratives, inspiring people and organisations to start creating futures that are trust driven and sustainable for all.
Yet another digital Night Shift evening (bring your own drinks) and this time we have invited a few international speakers!
Museums in the Netherlands are scheduled to open their doors on June 1st, but Nightshift will continue to operate digitally until physical gatherings will be possible again. We have taken this opportunity to ask a few international speakers to shine their light on the situation in their home countries & share their dreams for the future.
It’s not the first time we have had the opportunity to host an international speaker live or via Skype, but now digital meetings are the new standard during this crisis, an international line-up seemed much more attainable.
After all, in these unique circumstances, everybody around the globe is dealing with the same challenges. Night shift was wondering: how do collegues in other countries experience this period? Which problems do we share? What can we learn from one another? And the key question: What will the future bring?
This month we hope to bring another evening full of digital inspiration and collegiality. You can expect a wonderful mix of serious talks, drinks & banter and sharing knowledge beyond borders.
And as always: Everybody’s welcome. You don’t need to share a story, have a burning question, or know others joining. We hope you’ll meet some new people here!
